“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.” –Oprah Winfrey
It is tough enough to start your family without having relationship issues let alone with continual conflict, that is why it is important to change how you interact with your partner if you have some issues. So many people use excuses to just continue on, but that will never work my friends. I always touch on this when working with new parents either in Rocking Dads™ or Facilitating Fearless Birth™ (or just in casual conversation). I like to remind couples that every comment they make conveys respect or disrespect, appreciation or indifference, compassion or criticism, trust or betrayal, and companionship or isolation (as I learned from from Laurie Puhn JD).
Learning to communicate properly not more, makes a difference. So today I would like to tell you about these two amazing women.
Cheryl Sipkowski and Kirsten Brunner are Licensed Professional Counselors in Austin, TX. They have each been in practice for 17 years, both in corporate and private settings. Cheryl and Kirsten launched Baby Proofed Parents, a blog and workshop series, in response to the flood of new parents coming into their practice with postpartum, parenting and relationship concerns. Their goal is to fill what they see as a gaping hole in the parenting-preparedness industry: Expectant parents take child-birth, breast-feeding, and infant-care classes, but it is hard to find support for keeping their sanity and relationships intact.
Cheryl and Kirsten provide workshops for expecting and new parents who want to fortify their emotional health and parenting partnerships. They also provide ongoing support on their blog, http://www.babyproofedparents.com , in the form of tips, bits of wisdom, family-pleasing recipes and inspiring interviews. They also work with clients one-on-one in their Austin counseling practice, and offer phone and Skype counseling for those who can’t get to their office. They see the work they do as postpartum depression prevention and relationship reinforcement and they aim to empower new parents by reminding them of their strength and resilience. Their slogan is “Where sane meets baby brain.”
In addition to being therapists, they are both moms! Cheryl has a girl and a boy, Kirsten has two boys. They have been there, done that, and can relate to the parents they work with on multiple levels.
I was so excited to meet with and hope to do some work with these wonderful gals who clearly share the same focus on preparing new parents emotionally, relationally and physically for the adventure of parenthood.

As the father of Eva (12) and Daisy (8), Brian is no stranger to this world of babies and parenting. Both of Brian’s daughters were born by emergency cesarean delivery. Brian assisted his first birth at 19 years old and knew this was his calling. Brian holds a degree in radiology, studied biology and chemistry with an emphasis in pathophysiology and owns BabyVision Ultrasound, San Antonio’s leader in pre-natal imaging. Having worked with over 19,000 expectant families, Brian has taught many childbirth classes and currently teaches the incredibly popular Rocking Dads and Facilitating Fearless Birth. Due to his love of birth and babies, he proudly entered childbirth education as a “Birthing From Within” mentor and San Antonio’s only actively practicing male-doula (or “Dude-La” Brian says, being a surfer from California). Brian and the girls live with their domestic partner Alejandra Rodriguez. “I really love it when the switch is flipped and I know that the new parents really grasp what’s about to happen. That is the moment they are ready to own it!” Brian
